3 Jul 2004 - PhotoFriday: Father

For PhotoFriday's Father Theme. This is often what my father reminds me of. My father and his grand daughter.

Sorry about the delay, my computer went a little skewif and wouldn't give me the picture that I wanted.

3 Jul 2004 - Book: The Enemy
The Enemy: Desomnd Bagley
"Sometimes I think the world is like a huge ant heap ful of insects al busily manufacturing insecticide."
8 / 10: I'm going to have to admit it- I love a good thriller. And that is what this is. A story of love gone wrong when Malcom Jaggard, industrial spy for England in 1977, falls in love with genetisist Penny Ashton. A few short weeks later on the day tht Jaggard is preparing to propose to Penny her sister is the victim of an acid attack and her father disappears. When trying to understand why this must have happened by consulting one of his computers at work he discovers that there is more than meets the eye when the information that he wants is above his classification.
What ensues is a (pleasantly) predictable thriller, trying to discover whi Mr. Ashton is, why someone would want to to harm one of his daughters, and how the hell Jaggard is going to get Penny to love him once again for not disclosing his true vocation.
I know I said it was predictable, all except the very final outcome, and it was strangely pleasant to read something so, unbiased. It was like reading a book from someone who had amnesia, who could not remember ever reading a book before so all the ideas were theirs and therefore even though it has all been written before, it was nice to read.
Once again I learnt something. If you had asked me when the first modem was created, I would have said sometime in the late 1980's. Hell, I don't even know when the internet was created!!!
But for that, it renewed my interest in genetics and my desire to study them as a side project. I wasn't particularily fond of the ending, itbeing unpredictable and I really didn't understand the very last bit. The romance bit, that is. But it was a good bargain bin find.
Next up: Double Image.
